SUMMARY:Kirtan + Harmonium in Classical Indian Music - Weekend Workshop w/ Ram Vakkalanka
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, Sep 16 and Sunday\, Sep 17: 1-6 pm \nKirtan and Harmonium in Indian music style  \nJoin us to learn how to play the Harmonium in Indian music style as well as chant Mantras using Indian Ragas. Ram will share his deep knowledge of Indian music starting with the unique philosophy of Indian music\, its Vedic origins\, the musical tones in Indian music\, the structural elements of melody and rhythm in Indian music. Ram will also talk about the Navarasas (the nine essential human emotions)\, an integral part of the Indian music. We will learn and practice some Kirtans in a few Indian Ragas\, along with their notations. Insights into voice culture\, Nada Yoga and Sanskrit pronunciation will be offered as necessary. \nNo prior musical knowledge is necessary to attend this course. Please bring your Harmonium or any other musical instrument you would like to play the Ragas on. Make sure to dress comfortably so you can sit on the floor comfortably. \n  \nABOUT RAM VAKKALANKA: \nRam Vakkalanka is an internationally recognized master of Yoga philosophy\, Nada Yoga\, Meditation and Sanskrit. He was born and brought up in India in a Yogic lifestyle. He grew up studying the Sanskrit language\, ancient scriptures such as Upanishads and practicing Mantra-chanting and Meditation since childhood. In his teens\, Ram started studying music through the Sitar\, which eventually blossomed into Nada Yoga. Simultaneous to Yogic education\, Ram also pursued mundane education\, amassed a few qualifications in Finance and worked in the upper echelons of Management in the corporate world in Singapore\, Africa\, USA and Canada. \nIt was in Canada\, Ram met his spiritual Guru and that meeting changed his life completely. Hearts calling is their call out to the world to connect and communicate with love and presence\, to inspire\, uplift and share the joy of chanting and soul expression. \nRishi (Fraser) has been teaching Qi Gong\, Tai Chi\, and Yoga for almost two decades now\, in classes and retreats. DESCRIPTION:A 1-Day Meditation Retreat\nThis 1-Day Retreat is a Meditation Immersion experience that focuses on accessing our real and essential nature\, our highest Self\, through a balanced integration of Inquiry\, Meditation and Vichara Yoga. This retreat is intended to reveal our pure\, true\, boundless nature\, and to allow that recognition to be a foundational and unchanged seeing. This is not intended as a momentary experience\, or a restful day\, but rather an invitation to Be as you truly are and to know that undoubtedly. \nEven though for 1 Day\, this retreat aims to create an experience similar to that of a solitary retreat\, in order to provide you with an opportunity to rest with yourself\, to give space for powerful inner reflection and to create a sense of internalization\, allowing for a blossoming of the Heart and Truth. The teachings will be a unique integration of Advaita Vedânta infused into seated and walking meditation\, yoga and contemplative talks. Participants will be lovingly guided and introduced to various self-inquiry pointings and inspired to integrate these into their lives to continue to reveal and get acquainted with the truth that emerges from within oneself. \nThis retreat will be guided by Tiffany\, who has spent her adult life immersed in self-inquiry\, silent retreats\, and with her own master teachers.
